Adrian Roye and the Exiles make high impact soulful music, which blends the rhythms of roots music with contemporary British Folk themes and Americana songwriting influences. Their music has been described as ‘Afro-Folk’, which encapsulates the combination of folk and afro-inspired music with hints of country, calypso and jazz that inform the band’s sound.
Following wide praise for their live performances, the band were invited to record their debut album by acclaimed producer/arranger Michael Chorney (Anais Mitchell, Ani Difranco, Justin Vernon) in Vermont, US. Their debut album, Reclaimed is due for official release in October and has already received rave reviews from MOJO magazine, Music OMH, Music-News.com and FolkWords to name a few.
Adrian’s richly emotive vocals and guitar lie at the heart of the band’s sound, in a style reminiscent of singer-songwriters like Tracy Chapman, Bill Withers and Ray LaMontagne. Added to this are the warmth of Beth Dariti’s dextrous bass playing, the jazz-inflected rhythms of Dan Paton’s drumming and Simon Lewis’ richly harmonic cello and highlife guitar riffs.
