Britrock’s here – and local drummer leads the charge!

Local drummer Sean Skinner’s band Rebel Territory are at the head of a new indie scene expected to be getting a lot of attention in 2011. You can see why this Tuesday 14th December, when they play at Bodega with recent Geffen Records signings Brother.

Rebel Territory and Brother have both been hotly tipped within the music world as figureheads of a new ‘Britrock’ or ‘Gritpop’ scene. Rebel Territory made waves in 2010 when they impressed enough to be offered support slots with The Kooks and Bonehead from Oasis. Meanwhile The Sun recently wrote about Brother: "IT HAS been a long time since there was so much hype about a rock 'n' roll band"’ They’ve been asked to support Liam Gallagher’s new band Beady Eye on their 2011 arena tour and are also getting involved with Liam’s new clothing label ‘Pretty Green’.

The Guardian has praised these bands for embracing what they see as ‘the rougher, rawer end of Britpop’. Both bands have a distinctive sound and the confidence and desire to once again make great British music that really matters. As Brother frontman Leonard told the NME: ‘We want to headline Glastonbury. And we will.’

Sean is born and bred in Nottingham, an ex-Eastwood Comprehensive pupil who played basketball for Nottingham under-16’s and still lives in the city. He commented: ‘I think that bands like ourselves and Brother kept true to what we wanted to do rather than trying to fit in to industry trends over the last few years. We always wanted to make music that would last regardless of what was in or out of fashion, so it’s good that more and more people are starting to pick up on what we’re doing’.

With the likes of Radio One’s Zane Lowe behind the ! music the sky’s the limit. Nonetheless Sean remains proud to be from Nottingham and as many people as possible to come share in what promises to be a very special night. The band have arranged a limited allocation of places on a special half-priced ticket list for the first people to email rebelterritory@aol.com with the answer to the question:

‘Which 1992 film by Quentin Tarantino staged its UK premiere in Nottingham?’

Rebel Territory, putting great music back on the map….
