These shows present an opportunity for Midlands based fans of Americana/Roots music to catch two acclaimed artists from the genre on the same night, in the intimate, comfortable setting of The Glee venues. Peter has just released his 8th album 'Black Mountain UFO' to widespread critical acclaim from the British press. Whilst for Dan the hometown dates mark the release of his self-titled debut album.
Released on Manhaton Records, Peter’s latest album has been described as “the great pop record he has always threatened to produce, mixing West Coast harmonies with a dab of psychedelia”. The record captures all the hallmarks of Peter’s sound that has earnt him high accolades such as 'one of England’s best kept musical secrets' (Rolling Stone) and 'a remarkable knack for turning out big, dreamy, melodic, memorable songs' (MOJO).
Following the musical exploration across a collection of 3 EPs during 2009/10, Dan has stripped back the production on his debut album to its raw essence. This exposed sound allows the freedown for his expressive and vivid vocal delivery and thought provoking lyrics. With a folk/roots sound that’s hard to pin down, journalists have drawn comparisons to artist’s as diverse as Cat Stevens, Boo Hewerdine and Peter Gabriel. After a recent show a listener said: “It’s like you got inside my head, and knew about all of my relationships.”
Peter’s work is an inspiration to Dan, he explains: “I was initally drawn in by Peter’s song ‘Sea Of Japan’ whilst travelling Japan, but I was soon hooked on the whole album. Peter’s songs are the perfect soundtrack when you are exploring, trying to break the distorted lens of your own culture...when I got back I felt compelled to get in touch.”
Peter will be performing as a trio with Danny Williams on upright bass and James Walbourne (Pretenders Guitarist). Dan Whitehouse will be accompanied by an acoustic band featuring violin, banjo, uke, piano, bass and cajon.
