American Band, Harpeth Rising Returns to Lowdham

For the past six years, Harpeth Rising has challenged the boundaries of folk music and created a sound that is both excitingly unique and surprisingly familiar. Their virtuosic instrumentals of banjo and violin mixed with cello and foot percussion create an exciting and unique blend of musical genres that include folk, rock, bluegrass, and roots music. Their original lyrics, conveyed through powerful three-part vocals, are both gritty and poignant. The all-female group met while studying classical music at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and were united - and continue to be driven by - their eclectic musical interests. Harpeth Rising began touring both nationally and internationally in 2010 with performances that include the Cambridge Folk Festival, Fylde Folk Festival, Purbeck Folk Festival, Frome Festival, Kerrville Folk Festival, Blissfest, Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour, The Bluebird, and The Green Note. The trio has recently relocated to Louisville, Kentucky to be closer to their southern Indiana roots and join the growing eclectic musical and cultural landscape of the region.

Harpeth Rising’s latest album, ‘Shifted,’ debuted at #1 on the Folk DJ Charts for August of 2015. The album’s opening track, “I am Eve (I am the Reason),” also debuted as the #1 song on the same chart. FATEA Magazine has called the album “truly resplendent” and Midwest Record has said the album is “taking Newgrass to the next dimension, taking back lyric writing as an form: if you’ve cleaned your ears out recently, this set is going to blow your mind.” The album melds folk, classical music, and rock with such ease that it creates a genre of its own. This constant innovation combining old and new genres of music, technical mastery, thought provoking lyrics, and heartfelt sensibility has earned Harpeth Rising the distinction of one of the most engaging and dynamic new groups in folk music today. Since their last tour of the UK, the trio also released their first live album in November of 2014. The album consists entirely of performances at The Dreaming Tree Coffeehouse in Baptistown, New Jersey and includes both original songs and previously unrecorded covers the trio’s fans had been requesting.

The trio will be returning to Lowdham for a concert presented by Warthog Promotions at The Old Ship Inn on Tuesday, 29th September at 8pm. The Inn is located on Main Street, Nottingham, Lowdham NG14 7BE. Admission is £8 and reservations are encouraged at www.wegottickets.com/WarthogPromotions or 01159 663596.
