Some Details...
The Humans are an innovative, contemporary rock band comprising the legendary Toyah Willcox, Bill Rieflin (R.E.M.) and Chris Wong who are on a short UK tour to promote their brand new album “Sugar Rush” ................. THE HUMANS.
The band are the brainchild of Toyah Willcox.
From punk princess to high priestess of TV, Toyah Willcox is a uniquely gifted performer. Charismatic, outspoken and impossible to categorise, she is one of Britain’s iconic household names – an award-winning rock legend as well as a much-loved actress and music composer.
In a career spanning thirty years Toyah has had thirteen top 40 singles, recorded twenty albums, written two books, appeared in over forty stage plays, made ten feature films and presented such diverse television programmes as The Good Sex Guide Late, Watchdog and Songs Of Praise.
BILL RIEFLIN is a multi-instrumentalist, most recently active as a drummer with R.E.M.. Rieflin has also worked with Robyn Hitchcock, Swans, Slow Music, Mark Lanegan, Angels of Light, The Minus 5, John Wesley Harding, Grant-Lee Phillips, Hector Zazou, Ruby, Ministry, Chris Connelly, and Nine Inch Nails among others. Rieflin is one of the founders of the independent music label First World.
According to toyahwillcox.com, "THE HUMANS live show is song based but the songs are deconstructed down to the bones of raw experience exposing human nature and irony. Comparisons are always misleading but if The White Stripes met with the vocal adventures of Lou Reed, Kate Bush, Gabriel and Beefheart then you might get a flavour of things to come..."
The Humans were formed after Willcox was approached to tour Estonia by the Estonian ambassador in 2006. Willcox formed the band in 2007 and they premiered their material on a three-date mini-tour of Estonia in late October 2007. All three dates sold out in 24 hours, and were attended by several governmental dignitaries including the Estonian president. The shows were filmed for a forthcoming DVD release. The band released their debut album We are the Humans on May 1, 2009. The release was celebrated with a concert in Tartu and also included Toyah's husband, Robert Fripp, on guitar.
THE HUMANS brand new studio album “Sugar Rush” is released in October 2011 to coincide with a short 5 date UK tour and will be available to buy at the gigs
