Some Details...

The desolate beauty of the Isle Of Jura, Scotland provided the setting for the recording of Karls' new album 'Bundle Of Nerves'.

Recorded over 20 days involving Karl travelling for 6 ½ hours by car and then taking 2 ferries to the island’s one and only recording studio.

This remote island also boasts one public house, it’s own distillery and a population of 200!

Karl was joined there by bassist, piano and Marimbula musician Simon Edwards (ex Fairground Attraction, Portishead and David Gray) and percussionist and producer Giles Perring. Between them they conjured up 11 varied tracks with tales of lust, regret, anger, love, death, onanism, dehumanisation and insanity…..

All aided by the wild wind and occasional wee drams of single malt whisky from the local distillery.

The resulting album is a delightful mixture of light and shade all underpinned by Karl Culley’s very unique and breathtaking visceral finger-style acoustic guitar playing, compelling tension coupled with the venerable spectral quality of his voice.

Karl is a published poet and his lyrics display a talent for imagery and a pre-occupation with otherness and that which is beyond our grasp. His background as the percussionist in a skiffle-noir band and a teenage mixer of drum and bass and trip-hop vinyl has informed his unique groovy percussive guitar style.

Karl’s recent singles both taken from this album, ‘Elephant Juice’ and ‘Bundle of Nerves’, received widespread national acclaim as well as radio support from amongst others BBC Radio’s Tom Robinson. He was also featured, with full interviews, in national press including Acoustic Magazine and Classic Rock Society.

‘Folk inspired with frenetic finger-plucking guitar makes Karl’s single hypnotic.’

Music News

‘Karl’s unique vocals and urgent finger-plucking guitar style come together to produce a charming yet intriguing track…..’thinking persons music’.’

Karl's unique and hypnotic vocal range, the musical diversity encountered over the 11 tracks on Bundle of Nerves and the sheer enjoyment one gets out of his wonderful and evocative lyrics......a brilliant dramatic and theatrical album, which will keep even the most hardened music fans happy...this album makes my day better. Fact!"
