Some Details...

On March 6th at 7.30 pm ‘Land of the Harp’ is the concert linked to St. David’s Day which Liath Hollins (lever harp - clarsach) and Kathryn Lewis (pedal harp) will perform at Chilwell Road Methodist Church. This will include some Welsh pieces along with other classical and traditional harp music. Tickets are £6 (£5 in advance), Student/Child £3 and are available from the church office.

Liath Hollins
Harpist Liath Hollins’ lifelong fascination with the harp has blossomed in to a successful freelance career. She specialises in traditional music from across the UK, combining harp and voice in beautiful combination.
Born in to a musical family, Liath plays a variety of instruments but was especially drawn to the harp, choosing to study with some of the UK’s most respected traditional music specialists - including Ashbourne native and renaissance specialist Jean Hudson, renowned Scottish harper Charlotte Peterson and harping superstar Catriona MacKay - while developing her own distinct style.
An engaging and accomplished performer, Liath is much in demand at folk venues and this year completed a season of solo concerts at the Buxton Festival Fringe, spell-binding audiences with her own arrangements.
Liath Hollins performs a musical set .. the harp is a wonderful instrument, Liath's playing was particularly strong .. and most fluent when she was accompanying her own singing. Diverse, striking a balance between the well-known and the obscure. A very pleasant and relaxing concert.
Nick Butterley, Buxton Festival Fringe
Liath’s Rigatona CD is now available featuring her trademark sound in wonderful arrangements of music from around Britain.

Kathryn Lewis
Originally from South Wales, Kathryn Lewis grew up surrounded by harps and harpists. Always a keen musician, Kathryn’s harp journey began at the age of 12 when she was invited to take her compositions to be played by the head of harp studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
Kathryn’s harp education has been broad and varied: she’s studied authentic Irish Baroque with Andrew Lawrence-King; jazz-age gems with the Warldorf-Astoria’s resident harpist Ray Pool; traditional Scottish music with Anne Macdiarmid and Isobel Mieras and traditional Welsh music with some of Wales’ most accomplished musicians.
Kathryn’s particular vice is stealing music from other instruments’ repertoires and creating a new perspective for them on the harp.
Kathryn’s busy freelance career takes her all over Europe and she has performed as a guest artist with orchestras, as a soloist at festivals and has worked a consultant with harp-makers in Wales. She has completed residencies in stately homes and hotels, including the Scandic Luosto, 80km above the Arctic Circle!
