The Beeston Resource Centre on Middle Street supports many people locally and from across the County in their struggle to overcome mental health issues. One of the activities available to these ‘service users’ is music, in all its aspects – learning an instrument, live performance, song writing, working in a band, recording, and helping other musicians.
Around three years ago the Mindset project was set up to maximise the range of activities for the Centre’s musicians, resulting in numerous live concerts by bands and individuals, and two CDs of songs written by service users. A third album is due to be released in October 2011.
However, the future of the Centre has been in doubt for some time because of financial pressures. It now seems that the County Council will support the continued use of the building, but many of the activities will have to be scaled back. The Mindset project is seeking to become a registered charity, and needs to raise enough money to satisfy the registration criteria.
A fund-raising concert is being held at the White Hart Inn in Lenton on 16th July 2011, starting at 8pm, and featuring five separate musical acts, including bands and individuals who currently work within the Mindset project.
It should be a very good night! These guys are extremely good!! They perform covers and – spectacularly – some really really brilliant original material. The Percy Brown Trio are very well known for the quality and power of their blues. The Meerkats are a four-piece indie rock band with a number of originals and some impressive covers, etc, etc. Come along and hear for yourself, and support this extremely good cause.
