WorldService Project (WSP) are an exhilarating quintet from London led with missionary zeal by pianist Dave Morecroft, who also leads the collaborative, border crossing Match & Fuse collective and festival. Raucous, muscular and groovy, there is a playful aesthetic at work here that oscillates between the conventions of formal composition and outright grunginess. Their self-proclaimed ‘punk-jazz’ style creates an intriguing mix of Frank Zappa, Weather Report, Meshuggah and Stravinsky – all spiralling around in a Monty Python universe.
This Spring 2016, WSP launch their highly anticipated third album; For King and Country on Rare Noise Records. Touring the UK from April, they will be stopping off in Nottingham, at the terrific Cafe Bar Contemporary on the 30th April with special guests Zeitgeist.
