Andrew Litton conductor

Grieg: Symphonic Dances
Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto
Walton: Symphony No.1

Grieg’s Symphonic Dances show that there’s much more to the Norwegian composer than his Piano Concerto and Peer Gynt Suite. Written late in his career, these exquisite pieces show his continuing fascination with folk tunes, but now rendered on a much grander scale. Canadian violinist Leila Josefowicz has captivated audiences across the world with her fresh approach and her dynamic performances. Here she performs Mendelssohn’s lyrical Violin Concerto.

Now regarded by many as the finest British symphony ever, Walton’s 1st Symphony was written when he was just 30 and shows the young Walton at his very best, his unbridled energy and impish wit running riot. Andrew Litton and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra are acclaimed performers of this piledriving symphony so be prepared for a serious adrenalin rush.

Free pre concert talk, 6.30pm in the auditorium:
