A former winner of BBC Young Musician of the Year and a Classical BRIT award-winner in 2005, she’s making her first appearance at the Royal Concert Hall with Tchaikovsky’s evergreen Rococo Variations. Before that, Sir Mark Elder conducts the Hallé in Beethoven’s heroic Egmont Overture, and afterwards in Haydn’s 48th Symphony, one of the most dramatic of his ‘Sturm und Drang’ (‘storm and stress’) symphonies. Like many artists of his day, Mendelssohn was fascinated by the Scottish landscape and a visit to the ruined chapel of Mary Stuart in Edinburgh inspired the haunting melody that begins his 3rd Symphony. This atmospheric work brilliantly evokes Scotland’s steely skies and turbulent history whilst snatches of its folk tunes are heard in the lively second movement. Free pre-concert talk, 6.30pm in the auditorium: Natalie Clein in conversation Estimated finishing time 9.30pm For more information and clips of the music in this concert please visit: www.nottinghamclassics.org.uk/halle3 Theatre Royal & Royal Concert HallTheatre SquareNottingham Nottinghamshire NG1 5ND (more) Would you like to see more information about Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall?
