Following the phenomenal success of Joey – King of Clowns comes Tony Lidington’s latest one man show on the lives of the great British clowns.
Billed as The Funniest Man on Earth, Dan Leno was the most famous, most highly paid music hall artist of the age but he ended his life incarcerated in a lunatic asylum. The first stand-up comic, the best-loved pantomime dame and the world champion clog dancer with a strong line in character-based skits... he was, quite simply, a comic genius.
Dan’s legacy is now almost forgotten but this romp through his personal history brings the 19th century showman to life and traces the roots of British popular entertainment from music hall to Little Britain.
Following the performance, Tony will be giving a talk on how he brought his long-standing obsession with the history of British popular entertainment to the stage through this production. The talk is free to all ticket holders and will include a short question and answer session.
