Jazz Singer Jeanie Barton plus the BoHop Trio at Beeston ‘JazzClub’ at The Commercial Inn on June 1st 8.30pm

Review: ‘JazzClub’ kicks off it’s first season on May 4th with a packed house for Tony Kofi and the BoHop Trio!!

Joint promoters Chris Moore and Ian Beestin were overwhelmed with the support for the first meeting of ‘JazzClub’, over ninety Jazz fans packed into the upstairs room of ‘The Commercial Inn’ on Wollaton Road, Beeston, Nottm. From 8.30 the audience listened in enraptured silence as Tony Kofi playing alto sax. blazed his way through two sets confirming to the knowledgeable ‘JazzClub’ audience his status as a giant on the current World Jazz scene. After an encore a delighted Tony Kofi left the stage to a tremendous ovation, but not before leading the applause for the ‘BoHoP’ Trio acknowledging their contribution to a fantastic evening of Jazz. As the audience spilled out into the night more than one was heard to say ‘Best Jazz gig I’ve been to in years!’ Not surprisingly, Ian and Chris are already making arrangements to get Tony back to ‘JazzClub’ to kick off the next season in 2013. ‘Jazzman’

Having ‘warmed their chops’ at the Tony Kofi gig ‘JazzClub’s regular Trio, ‘BoHoP’, of bass player Geoff Pearson, Neil Hunter keyboards and Ian Beestin at the drums, are really looking forward to the visit of jazz singer Jeanie Barton. Jeanie is set to perform upstairs in ‘The Commercial’ for ‘JazzClub’ on Friday June 1st. and once again it will be an 8.30 start.
Born in Beeston, Nott’m., Jeanie studied at Warwick University moving to London in 2001, where she studied Jazz Harmony as well as taking singing lessons from BBC Jazz Award Winner, Anita Wardell. Jeanie is a regular on the London gig scene with appearances at Ronnie Scott’s, The Jazz Café and The National Theatre to her credit, and she’s recorded two CD’s, one of popular standards the other self-penned.

John O’Neill...Jazz Critic of The Sunday Times had this to say about Jeanie....”Vocals with a touch of class and a sound that is both stylish and personal, characterised by a refreshingly English delivery”.
“Absolutely spot-on!”......a quote from London Jazz.....

‘Jeanie’s infectious smile, great diction and rapport with her audience make it a joy and a real pleasure to listen her’......BBC East Midlands Radio ‘Jazz Incorporated’....

In a recent exclusive interview with ‘JazzClub’,Jeanie had this to say about her June 1st gig..
“I’m honoured to be invited to sing at Beestons new ‘JazzClub’ ,and especially to be following Tony Kofi’s hugely successful opening of the monthly event early in May. Although we both now live and work mostly in London it’s heart warming to return home to such an appreciative audience and to guest with the world class rhythm section BoHoP. I’m certain this Club will become one of the Midlands finest and longest running quality events”
