Beeston ‘JazzClub’ welcomes trombone star Brian Archer to ‘The Commercial Inn’, Wollaton Road Beeston. Friday September 7th.

Brian Archer, a 1980’s graduate of The Guildhall School of Music played his first major gigs with The National Youth Jazz Orchestra, making the first of his many recording sessions with N.Y.J.O. in 1986. During Brians eight years with the orchestra the trombone section included Mark Nightingale, Dennis Rollins and Elliott Mason, all like Brian, gifted soloists on todays jazz scene. N.Y.J.O. was just the beginning though, as Brian Archer then joined the John Dankworth and Michael Garrick Orchestra’s committing many fine trombone solo’s to C.D. . Brian told us one of the high points in his career to date (with ‘JazzClub’ on September 7th. still to come!) were his gigs/recordings with what is possibly the finest large Jazz ensemble in Europe ‘The London Jazz Orchestra’, who’s ranks over it’s twenty odd years read like a ‘Who’s Who’ of British Jazz.
Brian’s now based in Loughborough and plays regularly in ‘Steel City Bones’ and ‘Slide by Slide’ with fellow trombonist Lee Hallam, and Brians solo guest appearances at Jazz venues in the Midlands are always eagerly anticipated and well attended occasions.
Away from the Jazz scene the Brian Archer trombone has worked its magic enhancing the careers of established pop/mainstream heavyweights such as Chris Rea, Brand New Heavies, Shirley Bassey, Burt Bacharach and Dionne Warwick. None of whom the management of ‘JazzClub’ could entice away from their Counting Houses to share the spotlight with Brian. However the ‘JazzClub’ regular rhythm team ‘BoHoP’, Geoff Pearson bass, Neil Hunter k’bds. and Ian Beestin at the drums are looking forward to a challenging and entertaining evening backing Brian Archer, one of G.B.’s finest Jazz trombonists when he makes his debut for ‘JazzClub’ on Friday September 7th!
