The 3rd Heat of the Castle Rock and Nottingham Comedy Festival ‘Brand New To Comedy’ competition to take place at the next NCF Canalhouse gig

Canalhouse, Nottingham - Weds 4th April – 8pm

Bringing some of the circuits top up-and-coming acts, the NCF comedy night is always great fun, and you never know you could be watching the next big thing!

In 2010 Carl Jones from Ripley won the first ever Castle Rock and Nottingham Comedy Festival ‘Brand New To Comedy’ competition. Since then he has gone on to perform regularly on the comedy circuit all over the UK alongside big names such as Patrick Monahan, Mark Dolan, Josh Widdicombe, Isy Suttie, Alun Cochrane, Paul Chowdhry and Gary Delaney. On top of this he is now the regular compere at NCF’s monthly comedy night, looking out for the next winner.

This competition gives members of the public the opportunity to have a go at comedy, whether they are looking for a new career or would just like a laugh with their friends. The winner goes through to the final during the Nottingham Comedy Festival and also wins some Castle Rock Ale – anyone can apply via the NCF Entertainment website.

The NCF Comedy Nights at Canalhouse also feature some top up-and-coming acts. This month including the brilliant dead-pan comic, Kiri Pritchard McLean with support from Patrick Draper, James Meehan and Eddie O Dwyer.

Carl Jones – Our new resident compere started out on the circuit in September 2010 and has quickly established himself as one of the strongest new acts in the Midlands.

Winning the Nottingham Comedy Festival ‘Brand New to Comedy’ competition after just a handful of gigs, he has gone on to reach the semi finals of Amused Moose Laugh Off 2011, won both Manchester and Preston ‘Beat the Frog’ competitions at the first attempt and performed as part of Amused Moose’s Hot Starlets programme of shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He has also performed weekend open spots at Glee Club and Jongleurs, Nottingham.

Kiri Pritchard-Mclean winner of NCF Entertainments best breakthrough
act 2011 is fast becoming a well known fixture on the North West’s
comedy circuit and not just because of her obnoxious name. A finalist
in the Comedy Store’s fearsome King Gong on her first gig has clearly
stood her in good stead.


A charming stage manner coupled with a deft, topical and often dark
material means Kiri has ascended the comedic ranks and can now be
relied upon to deliver a strong set adaptable to a wide range of
audiences.
