Nottingham to host new, not-to-be-missed Talent Show!

With the ever-popular hit TV “talent search” extravaganza’s currently recharging their batteries; enthusiasts of spotting a potentially spectacular act for the future may just have a space in their diaries for something. Something fresh.

Ethik Entertainment - a promotions company which is conveniently lodging itself between Nottingham and Leicester, responsible for the triumphant outdoor event “Costock Music Festival” in September 2007 (which has been now been re-branded “Summer [ESCAPE] festival”) - introduce their latest initiative; “Unsigned Titan”. The promotion will combine the format of a classic Battle of the Bands contest with the dynamic effect of a live judging panel. Therefore, all acts which perform on the night will hear exactly what the judges think of them post-performance!

“I can’t wait to see the way the judging panel works,” exclaimed a cheerful Matt Mallek at Ethik Entertainment. “I think the great thing about it is that we’ll get to showcase acts that don’t necessarily get the promo push that others may take for granted. Plus, it’ll be hilarious if one of the judges carries a nasty streak like you-know-who!”

The event is exclusively held at The Golden Fleece; on 105 Mansfield Road, Nottingham. Entry is absolutely free for the general public; however the shows are all 18+. The contest is split into two categories, with the Bands segregated from the other acts. The other acts range from acoustic artists to things a little more…unique.

“The bookings have been quite cruel and tough, to be fair. The one thing I didn’t want in the line up was 8 Bands and 8 Acoustic Artists. It just wouldn’t sanction a variety of performances very easily. In the Bands, we’ve got groups who’ve had major radio airplay – such as The Bets, but we’ve also got heavier groups like Numb & Manichae,” further detailed the creator of the contest. “In the other category, we’ve got your easy listening acoustics, but we’ve also pulled in some crazy Techno/Breakbeat DJ stuff! There really will be something for almost everyone.”

Unsigned Titan 2008 starts in February, with the Non-Band’s category showcasing on the 5th and 12th of February, whilst the Bands take over on the 7th and 19th. The final is down for March 6th, (a show which will make the best of both categories go head to head), and naturally the event’s organizers have outlined their hopes for a packed house at each date.

What is assured from the event’s organizers and sponsors is that there will be absolutely no room for ulterior motives. Battle of the Bands competitions really are starting to get a poor reputation in some cases, and the booking managers for the event confirmed that this was an issue when trying to get acts to apply. However, the prizes for being crowned “Unsigned Titan 2008” are a guaranteed slot at Summer [ESCAPE] and also a free recording session at Mark Parkins’ Psyrex Soundlab in Nottingham. Pulse Magazine has also very generously offered their support for the event, promising the winner a photo shoot and coverage piece. As a result there is no financial gain or space to corrupt the competition, which candidly makes this fresh-faced experience all the more appealing!
