Anyone who knows their British Rhythm & Blues history will surely not need convincing of why they should attend this gig, but for those of you that don't let us introduce you to Wilko Johnson founder member of Dr Feelgood and inspiration to countless others. Any young fans of 'punk rock blues' should really try and make it to this gig, because this is no ageing rocker and is likely to be an inspiration, as the following review snippet will testify:

"At 59, Wilko is a walking advertisement for the new anti-ageism legislation. To say he has the energy of a man half his age would be unfair, as most 29-and-a-half-year-olds couldn't get near his level of manic unstoppability even if they wanted to. Indeed, if you saw the recent Stiff Night TOTP show on B8C3/4, you will have some sense of what i mean. Dr Feelgood were shown playing 'Roxette' in 1976, with a pudding-bowl-haired Wilko coincidetally half his current age, and though his stage performance was instantly recognisable to anyone who has ever seen him, it somehow lacked the full inspirational lunacy of the 2006 version."

In fact, so well written and so aptly describing of the style and energy of a Wilko show is the review, that we feel you should read more:

"What dnves him on is hard to say, but looking at his face as he stars at the audience, eyes bulging with supremely focussed intensity, no-one would think it was drugs, at least not in the pharmaceutical sense. But he is unmistakably high on the music in which he has become such an effortless expert - the high energy rhythm 'n' blues he virtually invented with Feelpod, and has now made his undying trademark. Together with distinguished long-time bassist Norrnan Watt-Roy, plus powerful young drummer Monti, both of whom, like him, indude the Blockheads on their impressive resumé, he exudes not merely commitment to, but inseparability from his material - he doesn't just play the music, he is it. Name me another performer of any age who leaps onto the stage, plugs in his guitar, starts playing at breakneck speed, and executes a deft and rapid soft-shoe shuffle, all apparently in the sarne seamless movement. Or who for at least 45 minutes does not allow an instant's break between songs, beyond the most cursory of thankyou's. To say nothing of the Wilko Walk, which on Saturday brought delighted gasps of bemusement from the packed-out audience. This entails a full-strided march to one side of his mic and then off to the other, while still playing at full tilt, whenever his vocal responsibilities permit. And that's another thing... he is no longer just the guitarist, as he was for Feelgood, but a screechily effective singer of both his own and classK blues numbers such as 'Johnny B. Goode' and 'Route 66'".
