Josh Howie's Messed Up Tour at Canal HouseDate: Sun 6th Nov Time: 19:00 JOSH HOWIE’S MESSED UP TOUR Great things are expected from the abrasive yet strangely lovable Josh Howie. The Guardian Not many people who’ve had a sitcom character based on their life have then gone on to write and star in their own sitcom based on their life, but that’s what’s happened with here. Son of Lynne Franks, the inspiration for Absolutely Fabulous, Josh has decided to step out the shadows and Dinally make it about him, with the six-part comedy series ‘Josh Howie’s Losing It’ on BBC Radio 4, followed by a UK tour, Josh Howie’s Messed Up. Taking autobiographical comedy to the next level, the sitcom and the tour weave intricate Curbesque plot that focus on real events in his and his wife’s life as they deal with the impending arrival of their Dirst baby. With a knack for falling out with people and getting into bizarre situations, Josh’s efforts to Dinally grow up and be a great father and husband invariably end in disaster. Josh is a much in-demand stand-up comic, performing his distinctive brand of humor all over the world. In 2012, he was invited to perform at the prestigious Just for Laugh’s comedy festival in Montreal, Dilming the internationally distributed Just For Laugh’s All Access TV show. In addition, he’s written and performed four solo shows for the Edinburgh Festival, before sellout runs at London’s Soho Theatre. Recently appearing on the latest season of Dave’s As Yet Untitled with Eddie Izzard, Josh has recorded for two series of the Comedy Central show Comedy Store, and featured on World Stands Up and Comedy Blue for the same channel. He also spent four years as the writer/presenter of The Movie Geek on Sky Movies. Often praised for his writing talent, Josh has contributed regular features to The Guardian, The Times, and The Daily Mail. Howie is brilliantly clever, honest, utterly engaging and absolutely fearless. ★★★★★ The Scotsman A fabulous storyteller who can make you concentrate in silence then erupt into a Dit of giggles. He’s slick, he’s quick and he’s incredibly playful with words. ★★★★★ Metro Josh Howie walks the potentially trip-wired ground of race and religious identity with diamond-sharp wit and no small degree of daring. It’s Diercely intelligent, delivered with verve and you can expect to see a lot more of Howie in the future. The Observer Howie is a name to watch. The Times Howie is an intelligent comedian who knows how to amuse, shock and move an audience in equal measures. Time Out It’s refreshing to see someone like Howie tell a wider story about his life while taking comic opportunities at every turn. ★★★★ Independent The very undervalued Josh Howie delivers self-deprecating sharply written slices of neuroticism. There's a distinct (and lovely) whiff of the Woody Allens. i Sharply drawn self-deprecating stories, this is a very good hour. ★★★★ Evening Standard TOUR DATES Sept 30 Winchester Comedy Festival Nov 1 Manchester, XS Malarkey Nov 6 Nottingham Comedy Festival Nov 13 Coventry, The Warwick Arts Centre Nov 18 Gloucester Comedy Festival Nov 19 Bristol, The White Bear Nov 20 Exeter, The Bike Shed Jan 29 Salford Quays, The Lowry Feb 1 Aldershot, The West End Centre Feb 2 Birmingham, The Glee Club Feb 9 Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival Feb 11 Stockton ARC Feb 17 Crawley, The Hawth Theatre Feb 22 Brighton Komedia Feb 26 Edinburgh, The Stand March 9 Canterbury, The Gulbenkian March 11 Cambridge, The Junction March 20 Glasgow International Comedy Festival March 21 Newcastle, The Stand www.joshhowie.com Canal HouseCanal SideNottingham Nottinghamshire NG1 7EH (more) Would you like to see more information about Canal House?
